Overview
Maximize Your STEM Degree & Make a Difference in the Community
DragonsTeach is a Drexel University academic program that offers Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) majors the opportunity to receive secondary teaching certification along with their degree and co-op experience. Students are eligible to earn grade 7-12 teaching certification in the following subject areas: Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or General Science.
DragonsTeach is designed to address the national need for qualified STEM teachers by allowing students with the content knowledge to experience secondary teaching. Students participate in inquiry-based instruction to break down the traditional barriers in teaching/learning math and science and to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
As a UTeach Initiative, DragonsTeach will contribute to the institute’s national goal of producing 100,000 new STEM teachers by 2021!
DragonsTeach is a collaborative effort of the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the School of Education. This program is supported by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a $1.45 million grant from the National Math and Science Initiative to replicate the UTeach program. DragonsTeach is a part of the Center of the Advancement of STEM Learning and Teaching Excellence (CASTLE), which employs an interdisciplinary research approach to generate knowledge that will support improved STEM education at all levels.
