Volunteer

buffet line at the monthly community dinner

Whether you are a West Philadelphia resident, or a Drexel student, faculty member, or professional employee, there are a number of service opportunities available at the Dornsife Center.

Most of our volunteers join us for our monthly community dinners, held on the first Tuesday of each month. These family-friendly dinners are among our most popular events. They feature delicious healthy food that is often prepared by Drexel students and community residents taking part in our Side-by-Side culinary arts classes. There is always a visual arts mini-exhibit showcasing local artists, and there is frequently a musical accompaniment. Community dinners are a great way for neighbors to catch up with one another, and for members of the Drexel community to get to know Dornsife Center participants a little better. Volunteers help with greeting and signing in diners, assembling program flyer packets, and serving dinner.

There are also volunteer opportunities with Our Closet, a nonprofit partner that brings a monthly free clothing pop-up shop to the Dornsife Center. Volunteers can assist with setup and with helping participants shop for what they need. Drexel Urban Growers also welcomes volunteers to support our community garden on harvest days to help with watering, weeding, harvesting, and general maintenance.
