Phestival

November 12, 2018

On Saturday, November 10th The Center for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning Excellence, with partners from University of the Sciences and Lehigh University, hosted the 2nd annual Philly Phage Phestival at Drexel University. The event was sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and brought together regional participants in the SEA-PHAGES (Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science) program, an academic year-long discovery-based undergraduate research course.

This year we were honored to have Dr. Graham Hatfull as our keynote speaker. Dr. Hatfull is a Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh where he administers the SEA-PHAGES program in a collaboration with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).

Over 90 faculty members and students attended the Phestival. Building upon last year’s success, students from Cabrini University, La Salle University and Neumann University were in attendance as well as students from Drexel University, Lehigh University and University of the Sciences. Additional faculty members attended from St. Joseph’s University and Marywood University.

Attendees enjoyed lively breakout sessions, a student poster competition and the chance to mingle and network with people from regional institutions who share a love for SEA-PHAGES.
