Title: Why I teach improv: Strategies for mentoring and investing in undergraduate researchers

Dr. Marcu will share strategies she has used to actively engage undergraduates in research, and will contextualize her lab’s experiences within evidence-based approaches for effective undergraduate mentoring in STEM.

Dr. Marcu’s research interests include human-computer interaction, health informatics, ubiquitous computing, action research, ethnography, user experience design, designing for social change, and organizational information systems. Over the past 5 years, Dr. Marcu has mentored over 50 undergraduates, 58% of whom have been women and other underrepresented minorities in computing.
