When Anthony J. Drexel launched an institution of higher learning in late 19th century Philadelphia, where our country was born, he encouraged people of all backgrounds, gender identities and ethnicities to learn the “practical arts and sciences.” In 1990, the College of Arts and Sciences was created out of a combination of the College of Science and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, bringing together a broad range of programs spanning the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
