All-College Choir and Orchestra

March 7, 2013

Hallelujah! The University Orchestra and All-College Choir’s annual free Winter Concert will be held at the Main Auditorium on Friday, March 8th at 7:30 PM. The Choir, led by Scott Bacon, will perform songs by Handel, Billy Joel, John Rutter, and others. The Orchestra, led by Paul Bryan, will perform opera overtures including Mozart’s “Overture to the Magic Flute” and Brahms’ romantic work “Academic Festival Overture.” Mozart’s “Overture to the Magic Flute” was finished just days before the premiere of the opera in 1791. About a hundred years later, Brahms composed the “Academic Festival Overture” during the summer of 1880 as a musical appreciation for the University of Breslau, which had awarded him an honorary doctorate.
