Dean's Welcome

January 10, 2012

The winter holidays come and go all too quickly and I hope yours were most enjoyable.  As we begin 2012, auspiciously The Chinese Year of the Dragon, we’re excited about our upcoming roster of events, which we detail in this newsletter.  We’ll soon welcome legendary television anchor Jane Pauley…the CEO of Burberry Angela Ahrendts…and noted architect Robert A.M. Stern. Our upcoming theatre production of BAD BOY SHAKESPEARE will first play the Mandell Theater and then in New York City at the wonderful Abingdon Theater. Our Concert Band will be performing music written by African-American composers at the Kimmel Center. This past year was a terrific year for our students and faculty.  We received a student Emmy award for OFF CAMPUS, our student-produced sitcom, which also aired on CBS-network’s MY PHL 57. Students in our Music Industry program beat out our own MAD Dragon Record label for the Independent Music Association’s College Record of the Year. WKDU won the CMJ’s Radio Station of the Year and DNEWS won a Telly Award.  Graphic Design students won a staggering 115 awards and created patches for the final NASA shuttle mission. 2012 is already shaping up as another banner year that will be highlighted by our move into the URBN Center in September, providing spectacular new digs for over half of the College’s programs.  We wish you a wonderful New Year and look forward to keeping in touch via this newsletter, our social media platforms (www.facebook.com/drexel.westphalcollege and @drexelwestphal) and, hopefully, on campus at an event or one of our many fantastic Senior Shows that will be staged late this Spring.
