Music Ensemble Fall Music Festival

Drexel University's Department of Performing Arts Music Ensembles Present Fall Music Festival, December 1-8, 2006.

Running December 1-8, 2006, the Department of Performing Arts will present their annual Fall Music Festival. Throughout the week, a variety of music ensembles will present concerts in locations on campus. All concerts are free and open to the public.

List of Ensemble, Location, Time and Date

  • String Ensemble: Friday, 12/1/2006, 7:30PM Mandell Theater The String ensemble will perform the first movement of Mozart's 40th Symphony, the St. Paul's Suite, a selection containing themes from the Nutcracker, and a Mannheim Steamroller version of Joy to the World.
  • Naturally Sharp (Vocal Jazz Ensemble): Saturday, 12/2/2006, 3:00PM Mandell Theater Naturally Sharp performs big band era hits like "It Don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing," and "Jumpin' with Symphony Sid" to more recent jazz songs such as "Sing, sing, sing."
  • Gospel Choir: Saturday, 12/2/2006, 7:30PM Mandell Theater The Gospel Choir will turn the Mandell Theater into a house of praise and worship.
  • University Chorus& Chamber Singers: Sunday, 12/3/2006, 3:00PM Main Auditorium The University Chorus and Chamber Singers will perform Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata, songs from Irving Fine's Alice in Wonderland, and a variety of Madrigals, Chansons, and Spirituals.
  • Concert Band: Sunday, 12/3/2006, 7:00PM Mandell Theater The performance will consist primarily of concert band repertoire featuring Shostakovich's Festive Overture, Whiteacre's Cloudburst, Holst's Second Suite in F for Military Band, Grainger's The Immovable Do and Arnold's Preclude, Siciliano and Rondo.
  • Fusion Band & Guitar Ensemble: Tuesday, 12/5/2006, 7:30PM Mandell Theater The Guitar Ensemble and Fusion Band share the stage for the evening, performing a variety of music including samba, funk, classical, and jazz arrangements.
  • Percussion Ensemble: Wednesday, 12/6/2006, 7:30PM Mandell Theater SWING, SWING, SWING is an upbeat jazz show featuring Drexel's Dance Ensemble, guitarist Luke Abruzzo, guest vocalists, and of course, the Drexel Percussion Ensemble
  • Jazz Orchestra & Jazztet: Thursday, 12/7/2006, 8:00PM Mandell Theater The Jazz Orchestra concert will feature compositions by Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus, and Nat Adderley among other composers.
  • Keyboard: Friday, 12/8/2006, 7:30PM Mandell Theater The Keyboard Ensemble will put 12 keyboards on one stage performing a variety of music.
