Drexel Westphal Makes Princeton Review List of Top Schools for Game Design for 2024

April 2, 2024

Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is one of the top schools for game design studies according to The Princeton Review®. The education services company features Westphal on its 15th annual ranking lists: Top 50 Undergraduate Schools for Game Design for 2024 and Top 25 Graduate Schools for Game Design in 2024.

Westphal captured the 10th spot on the graduate list and the 8th spot on the undergraduate list, which The Princeton Review reported on March 19. The lists are posted on the company website here. Drexel Westphal offers an undergraduate degree in Game Design & Production through the Department of Digital Media, as well as a Masters and PhD offering in Digital Media.

The Princeton Review chose the schools based on its 2023 survey of administrators at 150 institutions across the U.S. and abroad offering game design courses, majors, or degree programs. The survey collected information in four areas: academics, faculty, technology, and career prospects. The company bed more than 40 survey data points to tally the rankings. Information on the methodology is here.

"We highly recommend Drexel Westphal as well as the other outstanding schools on our 2024 lists to students considering a career in the exciting field of game design," said Rob Franek, The Princeton Review's Editor-in-Chief. "Their faculties are superb. Their facilities are state-of-the-art, and their alumni include many of the industry’s most successful game designers, developers, and entrepreneurs."

PC Gamer, The Princeton Review's reporting partner for this project since 2013, has a feature on the rankings in its May issue which landed on newsstands March 19. The feature, titled "The Best Game Design Programs Ranked by The Princeton Review for 2024," names the schools on the lists and reports interesting stats and fun facts about their programs.

The Princeton Review developed this ranking project in 2010 with guidance from a national advisory board the company formed to help design the survey and methodology for the rankings. Advisory board members included administrators and faculty from respected game design school programs, and professionals from some of the top video game companies.

The Princeton Review also reports annual rankings of colleges, law schools, and business schools, as well as rankings of schools for entrepreneurship studies. The company reports lists (not rankings) of online degree programs in education, library science, and nursing.
