Third-year Westphal Fashion Design student Nicole Castañeda was selected as the 2021 recipient of the annual Charles Evans Scholarship. Annually awarded by the Fashion Design program to one of its highly accomplished young designers, the Charles Evans Scholarship includes tuition for Nicole’s senior year at Westphal. Named for the innovative fashion designer Charles Evans, the Charles Evans Foundation supports this annual award in addition to funding the creation of the Charles Evans Fashion Design Library in 2009.

Chosen from among a particularly talented cohort of Fashion Design majors for this year’s scholarship, Nicole creates expressive pieces that help people represent who they are and what they stand for. Nicole starts with deep research, allowing love to guide the design process with the aim of creating an emotional connection between garment and customer.
