Screenwriting & Playwriting ‘16 alumni James Acker received a Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, the most prestigious fellowship in screenwriting and the highest recognition an emerging screenwriter can achieve. One of five winners of the 2020 Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, Acker will receive $35,000 and be highlighted at the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Awards and virtual table read, scheduled to take place on Dec. 3. The 2020 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition winners were announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after receiving a total of 7,831 script submissions for this year’s competition.

The Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting is an international screenwriting competition established to identify and encourage talented new screenwriters and has awarded 166 fellowships since it began in 1986.
