WKDU Ranked Top 10 Most Influential College Radio Stations in US
October 1, 2018
WKDU, Drexel University’s award winning non-commercial college radio station, is ranked among the 'Top 10 Most Influential College Radio Stations in the US' by Soundfly. WKDU is broadcasted on 91.7 FM and operated by students and alumni of Drexel. It is the only free-format, non-commercial, student run FM station in Philadelphia, and proudly provides its listeners with a variety of programming content ranging from educational public affairs to the engaging and lively sounds that resonate through the various communities of Philadelphia.
Faculty advisor for WKDU and teaching professor for the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, Larry Epstein, commented on the exciting new ranking, “Influence in the radio business doesn’t come by accident. You need to provide programming that is both unique and compelling,” says Epstein. “WKDU has distinguished itself for years by playing music that can’t be heard anywhere else on the radio dial in Philadelphia or on most streaming or satellite radio services, and by making WKDU the home of new music, which has established WKDU as a station that breaks new artists on a regular basis. That’s why WKDU is on this list and has received so many college radio awards in the past.”
WKDU has received numerous awards, including Best Local Jamaican Radio Station by Best of Jamaica in Philadelphia in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, and Station of the Year by CMJ College Radio Awards in 2010 and 2011.
