We're adding two new minor offerings in Museum Leadership and Arts Administration, open to the students of our University's many diverse graduate programs, complimenting those pursuing professional degrees in fields as varied as Biology, Digital Media, Communications, Environmental Sciences, Archival Studies and Hospitality Management.

The Museum Leadership minor offers graduate students the opportunity to add museum expertise to their degree, and those with little experience in museums will be better equipped to enter the professional workforce with an understanding of how museums function and what unique challenges they might face in the 21st century. Museums encompass areas of interest and knowledge of all kinds; in our city alone you'll find longstanding institutions dedicated to art, history, science, anthropology and archaeology, to name just a few.
 
The graduate minor in Arts Administration provides students an introduction to management and policy considerations in arts, cultural and creative enterprises. With more than 702,771 US businesses involved in the creation or distribution of the arts, employing 2.9 million people (Americans for the Arts 2015), a minor in Arts Administration can be an entree to exciting career opportunities in the cultural and creative industries. “Arts, culture, and the creative industries are vital parts of every community," stated Julie-Goodman Hawkins, Arts Administration Program Director. "We’re excited to welcome students from other academic backgrounds to learn about and become more involved in our field." 

Museum Leadership candidates will be required to take 3 courses (9 credits) in Museum History and Philosophy, Leadership and Museum management.  They will also be expected to take two additional elective courses in the program based on their interests. Arts Administration candidates enrolled in the minor will take three foundational courses in the Master of Science program exploring cultural policy, creative enterprise and management techniques, plus one Arts Administration elective of their choosing.
