Danielle Garno, J.D will visit Westphal to deliver a public lecture on the evening of Thursday, April 13th, speaking to her extensive experiences with the many legal issues impacting the fashion industry. As a shareholder in the Miami Litigation Practice of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, Garno's practice is steeped in the fashion industry, with focuses on thetrademark infringement, anti-counterfeiting, employment, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and general business litigation. Her work has been recognized by Florida Trend, Florida Super Lawyers and Law360. Garno will discuss her work with privacy issues in wearable technologies, FTC guidelines for social media advertising, issues of intellectual property, and counterfeiting within the design industry, followed by a Q&A session.
Garno began her career in fashion law in the Greenberg Traurig's Los Angeles office in 2006, handling cases relating to anti-counterfeiting, trademark infringement and intellectual property issues. In addition to fashion, she practices complex civil litigation with an emphasis on white-collar defense and fraud actions, including defense of corporations against federal and state indictments, and internal investigations and negotiations with various federal and state agencies. She has worked extensively in cases involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), False Claims Act, fraud, Ponzi schemes, securities violations, money laundering, conspiracy and racketeering.
Danielle has written and lectured on legal topics relating primarily to fashion law and white-collar defense and fraud. She was a featured panelist for Miami Fashion Week’s Master Classes, participating as a thought leader in a panel discussion about “The New Dress for Success.” She spoke at Miami Swim Week on fashion advertising disclosures in social media and recently spoke at the Florida Bar’s Entertainment Arts & Sport Law retreat regarding Fashion & the FCPA. She was recognized as Legal Elite for the category of Commercial Litigation by Florida Trend for her work in 2015; Rising Star by Florida Super Lawyers for 2013-2014 and was listed as a team member by Law360’s “Employment Practice Group of the Year” for the years of 2011 and 2013. She received her certification from the Fashion Law Institute’s fourth-annual "Fashion Law Bootcamp", and has written and lectured extensively on topics relating primarily to fashion law.
Garno is actively involved with professional and community organizations, currently serving as the Secretary of Fashion Group International of South Florida and is Chair-elect of the Beacon Council’s Creative Design Committee. She also sits on the board of the nonprofit organization, Style Saves. Garno is a member of the State Board of Children’s Home Society.
