The Drexel Department of Architecture, Design & Urbanism is pleased to announce an upcoming program with Florentine architect Andrea Ponsi, international creator, city planner, designer, painter and writer, featuring a weekend worth of programming that includes an exhibition, lecture, reception and workshop through the generous support of the Good Idea Fund. With a background in environmental sustainability, Ponsi has been published in such renowned magazines as Domus, Interni, and Wallpaper and is the author of Analogy and Design and Disegnare Analogie.

On Thursday, February 16 at 6PM in our URBN Annex Screening Room, Ponsi will speak to a unique, four-part approach to drawing and drafting in the Architecture field. Advocating for freehand drawing as a principal tool, the method proposed is based on four distinct drawing phases: observation, analysis, abstraction and analogy. While observation and analytical drawings are part of the typical academic curriculum of an architect, less explored are the phases of abstraction and analogy. Practical applications of the four phases drawing method will be further analyzed by presenting four projects developed by the author along with the referents on which they were based.  A reception will follow the lecture in the lobby of the URBN Center.

On Saturday, February 18, Drexel students from all backgrounds will have the opportunity to learn how to create observational sketches, diagrams and analogous drawings using Ponsi's techniques.
