Functional Design
May 4, 2015
Milanese architect Giulio Cappellini’s global trend-setting design firm redefines the lines between architecture and design. As the firm’s Art Director, Cappellini is known for twisting contemporary aesthetic with a personal approach and engaging a divergent collection of designers from around the world. Their sophisticated Collection features minimalist furniture and home product designs, and the firm designs interiors for museums, bars and hotels as well as office spaces, outdoor areas and wellness spaces. On May 20 Cappellini will visit to speak with Westphal students about functional design and how he has worked to nurture young talents into now-famous designers. His lecture is open to all Westphal students and will take place at 9:00am in the URBN Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert Street).
Cappellini has worked as an architect since 1979 and is a lecturer at the Milan Architecture University. Through its products, his firm provides architects and designers with the various aesthetic languages of some of the most interesting names in the world of design, such as Jasper Morrison, Christophe Pillet, Tom Dixon, Marc Newson, Patrick Norguet, Marcel Wanders, Fabio Novembre, Piero Lissoni and the Bouroullec brothers. Cappellini’s collection is characterized by experimenting and exploring new ways of living in the domestic landscape.
