Drexel’s UN Ambassador
October 21, 2014
Genevieve Dion, Fashion Design Professor and Director of the Shima Seiki Haute Technology Laboratory, was recently invited by the United Nations to serve in the Ambassadors Program of the World Summit on Innovation & Entrepreneurship (WSIE). The new WSIE fellowship program is an open innovation community of executives, entrepreneurs, designers, scientists, technologists and thought leaders who are committed to transforming the future of health, technology, energy, finance, industrial internet, retail, and cities.
The theme of this year’s summit, which took place in New York from September 28 to 30, was “The Innovation Trilemma,” which focused on finding a balance between creativity, mobility, and livability.
UN Innovation Ambassadors are selected into the fellowship after extensive research and consultation with partners and leaders from across industries. Professor Dion is an award-winning designer who was recently named by Fast Company as one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business 2014, for her developments in the digital fabrication of wearable technology.
Ambassadors serve as the driving brain trust of future programs and initiatives of the WSIE, including the new Innovation for Prosperity (i4P) initiative. Professor Dion joins a team of innovators including heads of state, executives, designers, scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs from the world’s most innovative countries and companies, including Norway, Rwanda, India, Google, Intel, Wyss Institute and MIT.
