Luxe Redux: Back to the 80’s
November 17, 2014
Clare Sauro, Fox Historic Costume Collection Curator, wouldn’t call it a stretch to categorize 1980’s fashions as “over the top.” On December 6, Sauro will open the Costume Collection to the public for a lecture on 80’s fashion trends and a viewing of select Collection items from the decade of luxury. Sauro will discuss the return to luxury following the dressed-down 1970’s, as well as the influence of popular culture and the rise of international fashion. Examples of Italian (Armani), Japanese (Miyake), and American (Sprouse) design will be shown, and as Sauro says, “there will definitely be shoulder pads.”
The lecture is part of the ongoing Style Saturday event series, through which one of the finest teaching collections in the country is made available to the public. Established as an educational resource, The Fox Historic Costume Collection has more than 12,000 fashionable garments, accessories, textiles and related ephemera.
