The Business of Recorded Music

Beyond sound there are a range of factors that contribute to our experience of listening to music. On Tuesday, November 11 at 1:00pm in URBN Center Room 128 (3501 Market Street), Dr. Simon Zagorski-Thomas of the London College of Music, University of West London, will lead a free-to-the-public discussion on how the business of music shapes the way our records sound. A Reader in Music and Course Leader of Record Production/ Electronic Music Composition, Dr. Simon Zagorski-Thomas will discuss theories from psychology and sociology about the recorded music industry, examining how recorded music is made and how we listen to it.

Dr. Simon Zagorski-Thomas is the author of The Musicology of Record Production, which analyzes the fundamental differences between recorded and live music, how production influences the meaning of music, and how technology and society shape our perceptions. He is the Director of the Art of Record Production Conference, an international conference that presents leading practitioners, researchers, academics, developers and manufacturers in the recording & audio industries. In 2015 Drexel University will host the 10th annual Art of Record Production Conference.
