Spring Music Series

The Department of Performing Arts is pleased to present a free and public series of spring concerts and events from Wednesday, June 4 to Sunday, June 8 to showcase the talents of Drexel’s music ensembles.
On Wednesday, June 4, the Mediterranean Ensemble will be joined by distinguished guest vocalists and instrumentalists to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, in a performance of Ladino, Klezmer, Liturgical and Raga-inspired music (7:30 pm, Mandell Theater, 33rd & Chestnut Streets).
On Thursday, June 5 the University Jazz Orchestra and Jazztet will perform compositions by Charles Mingus, Count Basie, Oliver Nelson and more, under the direction of Dr. George Starks, Jr. The performance will take place at 8:00 pm in the Mandell Theater, and will feature seniors Stephanie Mayer on alto saxophone and Priyal Seebadri on drums.
To celebrate the end of the spring term, the Outdoor Music Festival will take place on Friday, June 6 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on the Lancaster Walk and will feature four of Drexel’s ensembles including the Fusion Band, Guitar Ensemble, Rock Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. At 7:30 pm on June 6, the University Orchestra will perform in the Main Auditorium (3141 Chestnut Street), featuring performances of orchestral tour de forces by composers Nikolaus von Rezniček', Johan Sebastian Bach,, and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. They will be joined by the All-College Choir, singing a diverse selection of music that ranges from Mozart to James Taylor.
On Saturday, June 7 the Gospel Choir concert will feature student solos in a performance that traverses singing, dancing, spoken word and mime, at 7:30 pm in the Mandell Theater.
The University Chorus and Concert Band will combine talents on Sunday, June 8 at 3:00 pm to present a joint season finale performance. The first half of the program will spotlight the Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Wesley Broadnax, with a performance of Vincent Persichetti’s “Celebrations” featuring the University Chorus, in the Main Building Auditorium (3141 Chestnut Street). During the second half of the program, the audience will be invited to the Great Court in Main Building as the University Chorus and brass players from the Concert Band perform John Rutter’s “Gloria,” under the direction of Dr. Steven Powell.
