On Thursday, June 5 we will host a screening open to the Drexel community of Anita: Speaking Truth to Power, a gripping documentary that speaks to the legacy of attorney Anita Hill and reveals the intimate story of the experiences that led her to become a national figure for social justice. Beginning with a 5:30 pm reception, the screening will take place in the URBN Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert St.) at 6:30 pm and will be followed by a panel discussion at 8:00 pm.

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Freida Mock, Anita offers a rare glimpse into Hill’s private life and into her decision to testify against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas in 1991 with accusations of sexual harassment. Throughout the film, Hill speaks to the obstacles she faced in telling the truth and relates what has happened to her life and work in the 22 years since. 

The panel discussion will include constitutional scholar and Dean of the University of Maryland’s Francis King Carey School of Law, Phoebe A. Haddon; Wanda Flowers, Esq., who was a supervisory trial attorney at the Philadelphia District Office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) during the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas; filmmakers Janet Goldwater and Barbara Attie, whose films focus on women’s and social justice issues; Gina Rubel, founder of Furia Rubel Communications and Bar-News Media Committee Chair for the Philadelphia Bar Association; and Sylvia Watts McKinney, Executive Director of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.
