Battlefest is Coming
March 21, 2014
In MAD Dragon Records’ upcoming Battlefest, four bands representing markedly different genres of music will play head-to-head in a circle that will surround the audience. Battlefest is a round-robin of sorts, as the bands will play individually and then trade-off songs in rapid succession. While this might invoke a classic Battle of the Bands, no musicians will be harmed in the show. The format is inventively based on elements of the popular music showcase, “Later…with Jools Holland,” and cult film favorite Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.
The fest’s all-local lineup includes the rowdy folk punk of The Hundred Acre Woods, Marietta’s shadowy emo pop, the soft funky horn sections of Darla, and the Keepers, described in some circles as the world’s newest under-21 indie rock superstars. Battlefest will unfurl in the URBN Annex Black Box Theater (3401 Filbert Street) on Sunday, April 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets are only $5 at the door and include refreshments and prizes.
