D&M Magazine Wins Two Content & Design Awards
September 17, 2013
Our Design & Merchandising program's d&m Magazine won two awards for its outstanding 2013 edition. The Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication (AEJMC) Magazine Division awarded d&m magazine first place in the "single issue of an ongoing magazine" category, recognizing the publication with a "General Excellence" award.
Self Magazine Editor-in-Chief Lucy Danzinger was a judge for the AEJMC award. In her assessment, she stated that d&m magazine, "takes first for it’s design art direction and risk taking with its editorial content – as good as any newsstand magazine. The articles are relevant to the audience and current, and profile pieces are lively, interesting and unique."
Additionally, d&m magazine won a Gold Award in the 43rd Creativity International Print & Packaging Awards for the "Publications - Magazine Design, Complete, Single Unit" category. The Creativity International Awards, judged by industry leading designers and marketers, is one of the longest running independent international advertising and graphic design competitions.
Design & Merchandising students produce d&m magazine each year, with original photography provided by our photography students. The 2013 edition featured a beautiful cover photo by Harris Mizrahi, a humorously documented eight-day road trip from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, an in-depth look into unpaid internships, a detailed tour of the ExCITe Center's Shima Seiki Haute Technology Laboratory, interviews with fashion and retail leaders and much more.
The publication staff was led by Editor-in-Chief Naomi Izen, Art Director Catherine Drussell, Editorial Editor Emily Stall, Photography Director Jenny Fulton, Advertising Director Emily Farrara and Faculty Editors Catherine Byers and Nick Cassway.
