Beasts of the Southern Wild Screening + Q&A with Paul Mezey

Our Film & Video program is hosting a free screening of the critically acclaimed 2012 film Beasts of the Southern Wild, followed by a Q&A with the film’s executive producer Paul S. Mezey, this evening at 7 p.m. in the URBN Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert St., Philadelphia).
Mezey is a New York-based independent producer and founder of Journeyman Pictures. He has produced a number of critically acclaimed films, including: Maria Full of Grace, which received a 2005 Academy Award Nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role; Half Nelson starring Ryan Gosling, which received a 2007 Academy Award Nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role; and Momma’s Man, which premiered alongside his film Sugar at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. He recently wrapped production on the film Cold Souls starring Paul Giamatti, Emily Watson, and David Strathairn.
Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Beasts of the Southern Wild follows the adventures of Hushpuppy, an intrepid six-year-old girl who lives with her hot-tempered father, Wink, in a southern Delta community at the edge of the world. While courageously dealing with Wink’s fading health, melting icecaps flood Hushpuppy’s hometown, mysteriously unleashing ancient aurochs.
