The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and our Music Industry program are co-hosting an audio/visual presentation by noted studio architect and acoustician John Storyk at 6 p.m., Nov. 21 in the URBN Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert St., Philadelphia). This event is open to students in the Music Industry, Entertainment & Arts Management and Architecture programs. 

Storyk helped build Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland Studios in 1969 and has since provided design and construction supervision services for more than 3000 professional audio and video recording facilities, radio stations, video suites, entertainment facilities, clubs, concert halls and theaters. His work includes private studios for Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Aerosmith, Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, Jay-Z, R. Kelly and Bruce Springsteen. This event is made possible by the generous support of the Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies.

Storyk’s one-hour presentation is considered the definitive assessment of architectural acoustics as they pertain to small critical listening and viewing environments. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) recently certified an advanced version of this presentation, which is now available as a follow up to his original lectures. Storyk also participates in the ongoing AIA Continuing Education program, for which he presents lectures on design, construction, acoustics, production and post-production environments to architectural firms around the country.
