University Chorus March 7, 2013 The Department of Performing Arts is proud to present the University Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Steven Powell, performing music from classical Vienna -- Beethoven’s “Mass in C major” and Mozart’s “Vesperae Solennes de Confessore” -- in a free concert on Sunday, March 17th at 3 PM in the Main Auditorium. Ludwig van Beethoven is well known as the master of the symphony, and the “Mass in C major” is one of just three major works he wrote for chorus and orchestra, showing many of the traits of his symphonies with its great dramatic sweep and power. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart may be best known for his operas and his spectacular Requiem, but this setting of the sacred vespers for chorus and orchestra demonstrates his characteristic energy and beauty. Rebecca Siler (soprano), Joanna Gates (mezzo-soprano), Perry Brisbon (tenor) Frank Mitchell (bass), and the Fairmount Chamber Ensemble, will be the featured guest musicians for the work.
