Music Industry Takes Class to LA
June 4, 2013
Assistant Teaching Professor Michelle Manghise will take Music Industry students on the road this summer. Her class, “Music Supervision: The Intersection of Music and Media,” will be held in Los Angeles, where students will research, source and license music for projects including television shows, films, video games and advertising.
The class will feature guest lecturers, including music supervisors, licensing agents and TV/film composers. Manghise plans to visit soundstages of the major television and film studios and music production libraries. “We have 22 students participating this first time out, which is larger than the typical class size in our program,” says Manghise. “This initiative is very much in sync with our practical, hands-on approach to learning. The students will be at their co-op jobs during the day so that they can take my class in the evening.”
The venture is an outgrowth of the Westphal in L.A. program that has seen Screenwriting & Playwriting Program Director Ian Abrams hold summer Film and Television classes in the city for the past few years. Manghise says, “I established my music industry career in L.A. Professor Abrams and I lived there for many years. Now, with this class, we want to share our industry connections with students to help them network and pave the way for their future successes.”
