Philadelphia’s popular geek culture website Geekadelphia has nominated Game Art & Production (GMAP) Prof. Dr. Frank Lee, GMAP student Greg Lobanov and Entertainment & Arts Management alumna Amanda Danziger for their Philadelphia Geek Awards ceremony, held Aug. 17, 8 p.m. at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University (1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia).

The Philadelphia Geek Awards are an annual ceremony hosted by Geekadelphia and the Academy of Natural Sciences, honoring local game developers, comic book artists, social media marketers to the arts and culture community and other “geeks” in the greater Philadelphia region. Dr. Lee gained considerable local and national attention for creating the video game “Pong” on the side of the 29-story Cira Centre. He has been nominated for three awards, including “Geek of the Year,” “Hacker of the Year,” and “Geek Story of the Year.”

Lobanov’s simple and soothing puzzle video game, “Perfection” was nominated for Geekadelphia’s “Indie Game of the Year” award. In addition to his work as a Drexel student, Lobanov operates his own one-man indie game company, Dumb & Fat Games. Geekadelphia recognized Danziger’s “The Backyard Philly Project” documentary as a nominee for its “Feature-Length Indie Film of the Year” award. The film, which premiered at our URBN Annex Screening Room in May, focuses on four teens growing up in Penn Town, a rough Philadelphia inner-city community. Drexel's television station DUTV will also be covering the event for its DNEWS program.
