Completing the URBN Center
January 16, 2013
We are pleased to announce that the second building of the URBN Center complex has been completed and is now in use. Adding to the already impressive new studios and labs of 3501 Market Street, the URBN Center Annex at 3401 Filbert Street, just out the back door of the URBN Center and across Filbert Street, is home to the newly expanded Leonard Pearlstein Gallery. At 4,121 sq. ft., the Gallery's space is five times the size of the previous Pearlstein Gallery in Nesbitt Hall. With museum quality environmental and lighting systems, and reconfigurable gallery space, the inaugural show, featuring acclaimed feminist artist Wangechi Mutu, will open on February 22nd.
The Annex houses a 150 seat Black Box Theater with a 2,489 sq. ft. playing area and an additional 1,528 sq. ft. of support areas consisting of classroom space, control booth, and dressing and green rooms. The Annex is also home to a gorgeous 123 seat screening room with state-of-the-art cinematic projection and surround sound. The Annex’s landscaping is brand new and will be a pleasure to enjoy once the weather warms. There are plenty of bike racks outside the Annex for use by students, faculty and staff. We look forward to welcoming you to one of the many exhibitions, screenings, and performances we’ll hold in the Annex.
