Ghana Dance & Percussion
February 20, 2013
The Music and Dance Programs are coming together to present a workshop and concert by the award-winning SAAKUMU Dance and Percussion Troupe from Ghana. Led by master musician, Bernard Woman, the group’s repertoire ranges from spiritual, ceremonial, and recreational genres to contemporary African dance forms. Saxophonist Lynn Riley, Music Program faculty member, began the artistic collaboration with the SAAKUMU Troupe last summer. She travelled to Ghana to participate in the Women’s Music and Cultural Studies Tour at the Dagara Music Center. The culmination of this collaboration will be presented during a one-day workshop and concert on Friday, February 1st in the new Dance Studio on the 4th floor of the Main Building (3141 Chestnut St.). Dance and percussion workshop starts at 5PM and the concert starts at 8PM. The event is free and open to the public.
