Acclaimed German born designer, printer, book artist, and sculptor, Werner Pfeiffer will visit Westphal for a one-day workshop, "Folding Structures," on Friday, March 1st from 10 AM to 3 PM as part of our Rankin Scholars in Residence program. Werner will work with students to explore three dimensional book structures that employ different folding methods. On Thursday, February 28th at 6 PM, Werner will host a public lecture, "Reexamining Books," in the URBN Annex Screening Room (Room 110, 3401 Filbert St.). During the lecture he will construct his limited edition book, “Out of the Sky: 9/11,” which he created for the fifth anniversary of the World Trade Center Attack. Werner's selected works will also be displayed in the URBN Center’s 4th floor display cases from Feb 28th - March 21st.
Werner's design work has been widely published in magazines Graphis, Print, Modern Publicity, Art Direction and Gebrauchsgrafik. His books, collages, drawings, prints, paintings and sculptures have been shown internationally in more than 70 solo shows and 100 group exhibitions. Werner’s works are also in the collections of the Art Institute in Chicago, the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the National Museum in Stockholm, the Yale Art Center, and the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Over the years Werner has received public sculpture commissions from The Federal Government of Germany, the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut and the State of Niedersachsen in Germany, as well as projects for corporations such as The Hartford Insurance Group and Daimler-Benz.
