March 7, 2012
Beginning this week and running through Sunday, March 18th, the Drexel Music Program will present a series of concerts that showcase Drexel’s accomplished student musicians and celebrate the conclusion of the winter term. On Tuesday, March 13th at 7:30 PM, the Rock and Fusion Ensembles will take over the Mandell Theater to present music by hard bop innovator Horace Silver, 1970’s R&B sensation Tower of Power, and Cuban jazz/salsa all-star group Cubanismo.
On Wednesday, March 14th at 7:30 PM, the Guitar and Mediterranean Ensembles will rock the Mandell Theater performing a unique mix of American and International music, with hits from Led Zeppelin and Hank Williams paired with Yiddish themed pieces like “A Naknt In Gan Eydn (Garden of Eden)” and “Baym Rebin In Palestina.” On Friday, March 16th the Percussion Ensemble and All College Choir and String Orchestra will perform separately at 7:30 PM. In the Main Auditorium, the All College Choir and String Orchestra will take a trip through musical history with Handel, John Kander’s Chicago, and Freddie Mercury. If you’re in the mood for something out-of-this-world, try the Percussion Ensemble’s sci-fi themed concert at the Mandell Theater, featuring music from Star Trek, Star Wars, and The Twilight Zone. All concerts are free and open to the public. For further details, call 215-895-ARTS, or e-mail Publicity Assistant Tom Bonner at twb54@drexel.edu.
