New Music Industry Releases
June 15, 2012
The Music Industry program has created two new albums of emerging artists. The bands were identified by our students who then recorded, mixed and mastered the songs. The Chronicle of Sound, part of Ryan Schwabe's MAD Dragon Studio course, features 20 songs by Drexel student artists that were recorded, mixed, and mastered by students in our recording studio facilities. The final release, which includes a variety of sounds from rock and pop to hip-hop and jazz, also includes one track by Music faculty member Luke Abruzzo. MAD Dragon Records is made possible in part by generous support from the Kal & Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies. The album was released June 9th and all songs can be heard on the MAD Dragon Studios bandcamp page here.
Professor Terry Tompkins' Artist & Repertoire Music Industry course will release Unleashed 8 on June 21st featuring sixteen tracks focused on the A&R process. The students spend part of the term in a role similar to an A&R rep, searching the internet and attending shows looking for hit songs by artists ready for success. Unleashed features two sets of artists. One are artists that come from across the US that are discovered online by our students and have their songs licensed for the compilation; the second are artists that are recorded, mixed and mastered in partnership with Professor Jim Klein's Music Production I course. A variety of sounds from funk to punk, hip-hop to soul are featured on Unleashed 8 and they can be heard here.
