Art & Art History Professor, Jen Blazina, will have her work exhibited in the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery from Tuesday, January 17th through Tuesday, February 14th. The exhibit will showcase different works created by Blazina while on her recent sabbatical. The exhibition includes Suitcases, which speaks to the lost glamour of travel. While in the Netherlands, Blazina found herself watching film noir, especially by Hitchcock. Influenced by these films, she began to pay attention to suitcases as telling items of women's lives. After four weeks of learning mold making and hunting thrifts stores for vintage suitcases and train cases to cast into ceramics, she produced three different molds of each case.

Menagerie is a playful photographic series of ten digital prints that capture hand casted hydrocal sculptures with 35mm film. Menagerie is a combination of Blazina’s enchantment with the forest and its creatures, juxtaposed with suburban lawn sculptures. Ephemera is an installation of 80 pocket watches inspired by the artist’s discovery of her grandfather’s pocket watch after he passed away. The images are contemporary silhouettes of people she is close to cast in crystal, screen-print and found materials. Exposing Delft is a series of 200 porcelain tiles incorporating photos of architectural details Blazina took during her travels. There will be an opening reception at the Gallery on Wednesday, January 18th at 5 PM.
