Bad Boy Shakespeare

January 12, 2012

Bad Boy Shakespeare: The Poet Laureate of Capitalism is a new theatre work from Adriano Shaplin and New York City’s the Riot Group which implodes the romantic view of Shakespeare as the “The Bard of Avon" and instead envisions Shakespeare as a cutthroat competitor, ruthless literary pirate, and bisexual misogynist.  The play, directed by Pew Fellow and Obie-Award winning Whit MacLaughlin, Artistic Director of New Paradise Laboratories, is our 2012 Mandell Professional in Resident Project (MPiRP), our annual artists’ residency made possible through the generous support of the Samuel P. Mandell Foundation. Bad Boy Shakespeare’s cast will include Drexel students and professional actors for a run March 1st — 4th at the Mandell Theater.  Auditions for the show are Thursday, January 12th and Friday, January 13th from 7-10 PM in the Mandell Theater; contact Nick Anselmo (nick.anselmo@drexel.edu) for more information.

Our Drexel student actors will get a chance to play Off-Broadway when Bad Boy Shakespeare: The Poet Laureate of Capitalism travels to New York City, March 24th and 25th, to perform at the Abingdon Theater. The award-winning Abingdon Theatre Company has been developing new plays exclusively by American playwrights since 1993.
