Our Concert Band will take the stage at the Kimmel Center for an evening dedicated to a wide range of African American composers, a repertoire that is little-known. The concert includes two newly commissioned pieces by Valerie Coleman, Roma and Umoja, as well as Clarence Cameron White’s Triumphal March, Roger Dickerson’s Essay for Band, Oliver Nelson’s Fugue and Bossa and Adolphus Hailstork’s Look to This Day, with Drexel’s University Chorus and members of the Gospel Choir. Drexel faculty member, Baritone, Perry Brisbon will also present Margaret Bonds’ Dream Variation. The Drexel Dance Ensemble Winter Concert, Snapshots, will feature work by faculty member Olive Prince and pieces by Meredith Rainey, former principal dancer for the Pennsylvania Ballet, and Clyde Evans, Director of Chosen Dance Company. Freshdance, the all freshman dance ensemble, will be performing select works and new faculty choreography as well. The 22nd Madrigal Dinner will take over the great court as we travel back in time to 1612 with student performers in Renaissance attire portraying singers, storytellers, jesters and featuring the Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Steven Powell. Jazz Extravaganza, now in its 13th year, features a joint performance from our Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. George Starks, and The Spelman Jazz Ensemble from Atlanta, Georgia. The Mandell Theater will also host performances by the Fusion Band, and Rock, Mediterranean, and Guitar Ensembles. |
