Rock and Pop

November 29, 2011

Contemporary rock and pop music comes to the Mandell Theater on Tuesday, November 29th for a 7:30 PM concert featuring Drexel’s Fusion Band & Rock Ensemble. The two ensembles will perform such hits as Stevie Wonder’s 1976, “I Wish,” popularized again in the animated feature film Happy Feet, as well as classics like George Gershwin’s iconic 1935 “Summertime,” from the opera Porgy and Bess. Things will get swinging with “Little Sunflower” from the bebop, hard-bop, and post-bop jazz innovator Freddie Hubbard.

On Wednesday, November 30th, get back to the Mandell Theater and join the Guitar and Mediterranean Ensembles for a holiday concert with a twist featuring Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”, Joe Beal and Jim Boothe’s holiday favorite Jingle Bell Rock and the traditional western Macedonian kalamatiano song “Milo Mou Kokkino.”

Pop music will be center stage on Friday, December 2nd at 7:30 PM when the Percussion Ensemble plays favorites from the blockbuster movie franchise Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar the Last Airbender, the popular Nickelodeon cartoon series, and the popular action RTS video game “League of Legends.” For more information on these concerts call 215-895-ARTS or contact Graduate Publicity Assistant Tom Bonner at twb54@drexel.edu.
