One of our favorite annual Drexel events is the Madrigal Dinner, featuring student performers in Renaissance attire portraying singers, storytellers and jesters fit for a royal court. Now in its twenty-first year, the Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Steven Powell, will take the audience back to the era of Shakespeare and King James I for a night of entertainment with instrumentalists, brass fanfares and harpsichord music. The performance and dinner will be staged on Friday, February 25th and Saturday, February 26th at 7:30 PM in the Great Court of the Main Building (32nd & Chestnut Streets). Following a dinner feast that harkens back to times of yore, the Chamber Singers will delight with madrigals, chansons, ballettas, and lute songs.

The Chamber Singers is a select group of 18 singers, chosen by audition from the University Chorus. This year the singers include students majoring in Culinary Arts, Music Industry, Electrical Engineering, and Nursing, and they will perform pieces that include “Ihr Musici Frisch auf!” by Hans Leo Hassler, “Though Amaryllis Dance” by William Byrd, “Weep You No More, Sad Fountains” by John Dowland, and “It is my Well-Beloved’s Voice” by Thomas Tomkins.
