Building Drexels Future
February 16, 2011
Architects and planners who have made design contributions to our campus will assemble for a panel discussion on the future of the Drexel campus. The discussion, hosted by the Drexel AIAS, will be on Tuesday, February 22nd at 6 PM in Stein Auditorium, 111 Nesbitt Hall (33rd and Market St.). Garth Rockcastle, a principal at Meyer, Scherer and Rockcastle, the architecture firm hired by the Westphal College to redesign 3501 Market St. and 3401 Filbert St. into the URBN center, will participate along with architects from Voith & Mactavish, Ewing Cole, Erdy McHenry and others. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Bob Francis, head of the university’s facility management division, and include a representative from Goody Clancy, the firm recently hired by the University to assist in creating a new master plan. The panel also includes fifth year architecture student Kevin Malawski who will talk about the smart house and the role of this college and others in building an urban home that serves as a “living laboratory” where participants conduct research in the areas of environment, energy, interaction, health and lifestyle with the ultimate goal of improving quality of life in the urban residential setting. The panel will be an informative night to learn about Drexel’s plans and visions for the future of our campus.
