8th Annual AAGA Art Auction
February 16, 2011
On February 25th, the Arts Administration Graduate Association will present their 8th Annual Art Auction at The Gallery at 3401 Filbert Street. This annual fundraising event helps subsidize the graduate students’ trip to Washington, DC for Arts Advocacy Day in April. The silent auction is the perfect opportunity to take home a work of art, ticket packages to exciting cultural events, gift certificates for luxury items, and a whole lot more. The auction showcases original artwork including photography, lithography, ceramics and illustrations from Philadelphia artists, as well as donations from local restaurants, theatres and museums. Doors will open at 7 PM and admission to the event is $15 or $10 with a student ID. The admission fee includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and musical performances from Shannon Corey and Thom McCarthy, both local Philadelphia artists. Corey’s music has been featured on MTV’s The Real Word and Bad Girls Club, and has been named Keyboard Magazine’s Unsigned Artist of the Month. Thom McCarthy’s music has been categorized as a mixture of swinging soul and folk-rock. The AAGA would like to show its support for the Drexel Dragons at this Friday's ESPN Bracket busters game vs. Kent State. Come find the AAGA art auction table at the game to preview some of the items up for bid. For ticket information please click here.
Organized by Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America, Arts Advocacy Day is a national arts action summit where arts professionals gather from around the country on Capitol Hill to urge U.S. representatives to support federal funding of the arts. Students engage with their local legislators and are provided the chance to see some of America’s most passionate cultural activists and leaders.
