All-College Choir and String Orchestra Spread Holiday Cheer
December 1, 2011
On Friday, December 2nd, the All-College Choir and String Orchestra will perform together in a free holiday themed concert at 7:30 PM in the Main Auditorium. Together, these ensembles will perform much loved classics from musical giants Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky, as well as from Gustav Holst, Cesar Franck, and others, presenting a new take on the beloved music of the season. Among the selections will be In the Bleak Midwinter, an early twentieth-century poem that was voted best Christmas carol in a 2008 poll of leading choirmasters and choral experts, and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, which according to the Guinness Book of World Records is the best-selling single of all time. The All-College Choir will also perform Do You Hear the People Sing? from Les Miserables and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, the 1967 R&B hit made famous by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
