Noises Off: Hilarity Ensues
April 29, 2011
Our final Drexel Players production of the season is Michael Frayn’s hilarious farce, Noises Off. Called “the funniest farce ever written” by the New York Post, Noises Off provides audiences a glimpse into the crazy goings on backstage as a traveling troupe of players rehearses and tours a silly British sex farce where everything goes terribly wrong. The comedy will play at the Mandell Theater (33rd & Chestnut Sts) from May 12th-15th.
The production will feature a young, energetic cast of nine Drexel students and a production team that includes Barrymore Award winners Rosemarie McKelvey (Costume Designer), Shelly Hicklin (Lighting Designer) and Barrymore Nominee Dirk Durossette (Set Designer). Peter Reynolds, Artistic Director of Mauckingbird Theatre Company and Head of Musical Theater for the Department of Theater at Temple University, returns to direct Noises Off after directing last season’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Opening Night is set for Thursday, May 12th at 8 PM. There will also be performances on Friday, May 13th and Saturday, May 14th at 8 PM, and Sunday, May 15 at 2 PM. Tickets are $15 for general admission or $5 for students, faculty, and staff with ID. Tickets can be purchased online with a credit card by clicking here or by visiting the Mandell Box Office Monday-Friday from 12 PM to 5 PM, cash or check only.
Noises Off, complete with false entrances, flubbed lines, double entendres, and a stage full of doors and sardines, will be performed on a multi-level set complete with a 28 foot turntable.
