New Student Designed Welcome Center Open
April 29, 2011
Last year Drexel Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management, Joan McDonald, challenged Interior Design students to develop design concepts and ideas for the renovations for the Admissions Welcome Center in the Main Building. The new Welcome Center is now open and we encourage everyone to stop in and see the excellent work of our students. Although one winning team was announced, comprised of Emona Zaloshnja, Julia Jacob and Gina Limongelli, the final built space also included several concepts from among the eight student design teams.
The student teams, under the direction of interior design faculty, designed solutions that had to meet the image goals and functional objectives of the new Admissions Welcome Center. Additionally, each team considered the real world parameters of safety, code issues, sustainability, appropriate material selections based on durability and maintenance, costs, constructability, and coordination with engineering systems.
The students presented their concepts to the Admissions team comprised of Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management Joan McDonald; Assistant Vice Presidents Erin Finn, Casey Turner and David Chezem; Director of Recruitment Leslie Paulson; Visit Experience Coordinator Maggie Miller; and University facilities representatives Gail Holmes and Jessica Rubin. The winning team's vision has now come to life with the help of Drexel Facilities.
