We’ve been featuring stories on the various study abroad options available to Westphal students and in this newsletter we will focus on the program in Prague in the Czech Republic.

The Drexel in Prague program is open to all students interested in exploring a historically rich and vibrant European cultural center. The program, only available during the summer term, has Drexel students taking classes with a mix of other American college students. Beyond coursework, students attend lectures, walking tours, excursions in and around Prague, informal dinners, and optional weekend field trips to Vienna and Berlin. Since the Prague program ends in early August, students often stay on in Europe to travel on their own. To participate, students must be scheduled for classes, not co-op.  The Prague summer program is divided into three distinct parts: a pre-trip course taken here at Drexel from mid-June to early July, two courses in Prague from July 9th to August 6th, and independent time for travel or independent study credits from August 6th to late September.

Students will be living in dormitory style housing and the local transportation pass included in the program fee allows students to easily explore this gorgeous city. The Prague program uses facilities within Charles University, one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Europe. The classroom building is very centrally located, along the banks of the Vltava River and next door to Prague's oldest coffeehouse, the Café Slavia. The National Theater, Charles Bridge, and the Old Town are close by. On her last day in Prague, student Danielle Traitz wrote in her blog “After a month of sightseeing and making new friends, it’s all over. Honestly, I still find it hard to believe that we were in Prague at all. The cobblestone streets and metro routes became so familiar that I felt at home.” Click here for more information on the Drexel in Prague program.
