Lynn Riley has been described more than once as a 'Superwoman' of the sax. Lynn has performed with many legendary musicians, including Grover Washington Jr., Philly Joe Jones, David Murray, Frank Wess, Shirley Scott, and Johnny Pacheco, as well as leading her own groups. She has performed throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and the Caribbean.
She was chosen in 2000 to present her band at the Painted Bride Arts Center for their series Women Leaders in Jazz, and she received a Window of Opportunity grant from the Leeway Foundation in 2004. She is the 2010-11 Artist in Residence at Opera Seabrook. Her debut CD Too Cool was released in 2009 and her second release is due out in 2011.
Ms. Riley has been on the faculty at Drexel University since 1999. She teaches classes including ear training, music appreciation, jazz theory, and private instruction in flute, saxophone, clarinet, and improvisation. She is the director of the Fusion Ensemble, and wrote the arrangements for and produced their CD, Cold Duck, The Best of Drexel Fusion Band (2008). The Fusion Band is currently working on their second release, due out in Fall, 2010
