Cathy Hernandez has over fifteen years of experience in arts management, and received her BA in Music from the University of North Texas and her MS in Arts Administration from Drexel University. She is currently Executive Director of the Louisiana Division of the Arts. Previously, she was Development Director of the Memphis Ballet, President of the Arts Council Northeast in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Executive Director of Artes de la Rosa, also in Dallas, and Development Director at Point Breeze Performing Arts Center in Philadelphia.
She has served on numerous grant panels for groups including five state arts councils: Pennsylvania, Texas, Nevada, Tennessee and Kentucky, three Texas cities: Fort Worth, Dallas, and Austin, and the national juries for both the Heinz Award and the Coming Up Taller Award. Ms. Hernandez has been on the arts administration faculties of both Drexel University and Texas Christian University.
She has received the Outstanding Women of Fort Worth Award from The Women's Center, The Rudy Eastman Diversity Award from Live Theatre League of Tarrant County, The Great Women of Texas Award from the Fort Worth Business Press, and Best Case Study Award from Drexel University's Arts Management Department. Cathy's work has been recognized by the White House through the Coming Up Taller Award, the U.S. State Department through a cultural exchange with Amman, Jordan, the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces program, and the Kennedy Center through a capacity-building program for culturally-specific organizations.
Cathy has also served on numerous local, state, national, and international boards and committees including the South Arts board (Development Committee Chair), International Performing Arts for Youths (IPAY) board, Texas Nonprofit Theaters board, State Advisory Board for VSA Arts of Texas, and the Latino Advisory Committee for U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger.
