Rena Cumby is the Associate Department Head of Architecture + Interiors. She has also held the position of Director of both BS Interior Design and the MS Interior Architecture + Design programs. She holds degrees in Education, Architecture and Interiors. Before coming to Drexel University, Ms. Cumby was in the professional field for 15 years. She was a partner in the design firm of Banik-Cumby, Inc, which specialized in hospitality and retail design. The firm’s projects were published and received national awards. Ms. Cumby is still involved in select architectural and interior design projects but her time is predominantly devoted to design education.
Currently, Ms. Cumby serves on many College and University Committees. She serves on the Senate Steering Committee as well as Senate Committee on Academic Affairs. She is also a member of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) and International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI).
Ms. Cumby teaches studio in both the undergraduate and graduate programs as well as directing Graduate Thesis. She has developed the graduate curriculum which has been ranked 12th in the nation by Design Intelligence and is also very involved in the development of undergraduate curriculum that has been ranked in the top 10 of the nation’s undergraduate interior design programs. Both the BS and MS programs are CIDA accredited.
