Jagged Little Pill Goes to the Stage

Tony Award-winning Broadway producer and New York Times bestselling author, Vivek Tiwary, will return to campus this fall to deliver Jagged Little Pill, a public lecture that speaks to his work bringing Alanis Morissette's iconic album to the stage. Following his lecture, Tiwary will host a book signing for his best-selling graphic novel, The Fifth Beatle. While on campus, Tiwary will be visiting classes in the Departments of Performing Arts and Art & Entertainment Enterprise, and his talk will speak to students interested in theater, film, music and graphic novels.
On Broadway, Tiwary's productions have won a combined twenty-five Tony Awards and over forty-four Tony nominations. He is the producer of hit musicals A Raisin In the Sun, Mel Brooks' The Producers, The Addams Family and Green Day's American Idiot to name a few. The forthcoming Jagged Little Pill is directed by Diane Paulus (Pippin, Waitress), written by Diablo Cody (Juno, United States of Tara), with Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt (American Idiot, Next to Normal) providing orchestral arrangements. The highly anticipated musical will premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge Massachusetts in May 2018. Tiwary is the author of The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story, a pioneering graphic novel that covers the untold, true story of the visionary manager who discovered and guided The Beatles from their gigs in a tiny cellar in Liverpool to unprecedented international stardom. In addition to his writing and producing work, Tiwary works as a media and entertainment financier/investor with Valiant Entertainm ent, a multi-platform company that boasts the third largest universe of comic book characters which has secured a 5-film deal with Sony Pictures. He is also the founder of the Tiwary Entertainment Group, a multi-faceted arts and entertainment venture involved in production, financing and consultation.
The Fifth Beatle has been added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Library and Archives Permanent Collection, has won a number of prestigious literary awards including the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award for Best Reality-Based Work, and is a Lambda Literary Finalist for Best LGBT Graphic Novel. The Fifth Beatle is currently being adapted into a multi-part TV event series.
Among many charitable pursuits, Vivek is the Co-Founder of Musicians On Call, a nonprofit organization that uses music and entertainment to complement the healing process. Vivek is a magna cum laude graduate of both the Wharton School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Arts and Sciences, and a cum laude graduate of the Collegiate School in New York City. He also holds a filmmaking certificate from The New York Film Academy and is an acting student of Susan Batson/Black Nexxus Acting Studio.
