Fall Concert Series

The fall music series will play host to a cornucopia of musical influences and styles, from swinging jazz to lush choral harmonies, Great American Songbook standards to Stevie Wonder, and from Jimi Hendrix to traditional Indian and Greek music. Read on for highlights of soloists and selections in the series, which features performances by the University Chorus and Chamber Singers, Naturally Sharp, the Jazz Orchestra, All College Choir, Fusion Band, Rock Ensemble and Mediterranean Ensemble. All concerts are free to the public.
On December 1 at 7:30pm in Mandell Theater, the Fusion Band will perform arrangements of compositions by Stevie Wonder, Horace Silver, Lee Morgan and James Brown, as well as material from their soon to be released album. They’ll be joined by the Rock Ensemble, playing compositions by Jimi Hendrix, Lady Antibellum, The Beatles and Bob Marley.
On December 2, the Mediterranean Ensemble will present a wide array of traditional and modern selections that cross ethnic and religious lines, from India, Lebanon, Israel and Greece (7:30pm, Mandell Theater).
The All College Choir will take the Main Auditorium stage on December 4 at 7:00pm along with the Chamber String Ensemble. The joint performance will feature vocal soloists Joshua Rouzer (Computer Science major), Nicole Crilly (Entertainment & Arts Management major), Maureen Lynch (Goodwin College, Professional Studies) and Jasmine Marcial (Information Technology major), as well as oboist Rachel Goeken (Computer Science major).
The Jazz Orchestra will present classics by Thelonius Monk, Neal Hefti, Al Grey, Johnny Griffin, Maria Schneider, George and Ira Gershwin, and Romberg and Hammerstein II, on December 3 at 8:00pm in Mandell Theater.
A select a cappella group of 14 singers, Naturally Sharp will perform 20th century jazz standards on December 5 at 3:00pm in Mandell Theater. Soloists include soprano Julianne Scott (Culinary Arts major), alto Cameryn Richards (Graphic Design major), baritone Zachary Renner (Architectural Engineering major), and soprano Julianna Quazi (Mathematics major).
Also on December 5 at 7:30pm in Mandell Theater, the Gospel Choir will perform Singing of the Psalms, including selections from their recently released album, The journey to becoming a vessel.
On December 6 the University Chorus will present a joint concert with the Chamber Singers (3:00pm, Great Court Main). Selections feature modern choral music from Denmark, Latvia, Estonia, Japan, Russia, Scotland, England and the United States, with a focus on composers from around the globe who deftly address the modern human condition.
