Performance Charrette

3/21/2014 12:00:00 AM

Drexel students from a variety of majors will spend the first weekend in April locked in an intense, interdisciplinary design collaboration to create an experimental performance piece based on the distinctive style of Italian Fashion Designer Sonia Biacchi. Known for creating experimental costumes for avant-garde dance performances, Biacchi’s tri-dimensional plastic structures wrap up dancers’ bodies, limiting movements to create a visual, machine-like effect – thus inspiring the theme of our 5th annual Performance Charrette, “Interwoven.”

Philadelphia-based artist, dancer and photographer Lindsay Browning will join the Charrette as its Biacchi expert – integrating costumes into performance elements using original designs by our Fashion Design students. She will give a free performance demonstration and lecture about Biacchi’s work on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Building’s Dance Studio (Room 418) to kick off the Performance Charrette, which takes place April 4 through April 6, culminating with a free performance on Sunday, April 6 at 6 p.m. in the Mandell Theater.

Students from all disciplines are invited to be a part of the Performance Charrette and Dance Prof. Tania Isaac is still looking for dancers, choreographers, actors, digital media creators, electrical engineers, musicians, fashion designers, photographers, filmmakers, and more. Some meals provided for participants. Any Drexel student interested in participating can click here to sign up, or email Tania Isaac at taniaisaac@drexel.edu for more information.
